As promised, we will take a closer look at the intersection of LGBTI+ and migration. By way of introduction, we show the testimony of Lucy, who fled from Tanzania to Belgium because of her SOGIESC. You will hear about her experiences in Tanzania itself, but also what she went through during the asylum procedure and in the reception center.
People whoflee because of their SOGIESC carry a big backpack with them, as you can hear from Lucy. They go through traumatic events in their country of origin and along the way, but also encounter all kinds of barriers when they finally arrive.
In their country of origin, this involves (the risk of) aggression or threats because of their SOGIESC. When they arrive in Europe, for example, they then come up against the Western frame of reference and the difficult asylum procedure. In the next two topics, we will explore this in a little more detail.
